Forensic investigation and remedial works to collapsed sandstone retaining wall by Strata Engineering Solutions in 2009-2010. Strata property at Farrell Avenue, Darlinghurst NSW, for client Body Corporate Services.
PROBLEMS
When the sandstone retaining wall of a strata property collapsed on top of a parked private vehicle, technical forensic investigations by Strata Engineering Solutions soon revealed that a broken water system had caused 8m of the retaining wall to become compromised to the point of total failure.
SOLUTIONS
Once the cause of the retaining wall collapse was accurately identified, and recommendations by Strata Engineering Solutions for rebuilding the collapsed wall by tying the wall securely to bedrock were endorsed for commencement, works undertaken by Strata Engineering Solutions included civil and structural design and documentation for the reconstruction of the wall, management of the tender process, and overseeing construction.
RESULTS
The retaining wall is now fully remediated and tied securely into the bedrock, without compromise to the original sandstone aesthetic.
