Darley Street, Darlinghurst

This residential unit block in Darlinghurst underwent masonry remediation works following concerns about the stability of a boundary wall. SES was engaged to assess the condition of the masonry wall separating the parking garage from the footpath along Darlinghurst Road.

The assessment concluded that the wall’s deterioration was likely caused by long-term degradation, with potential exacerbation from tree root ingress from a nearby tree along the footpath. Due to its unstable condition, it was recommended to dismantle the wall to a structurally stable height and restrict access to both sides until the work was completed. However, during the dismantling process, the lower section of the wall was found to be structurally unsound and unsuitable for retention. Given these conditions, the decision was made to proceed with a complete demolition of the wall down to the base level, as it no longer served a practical purpose for future reconstruction, and a new structure was designed and erected in its place.
